Friday Flowers Club #8~Litha
Hello friends.
We are fast approaching the longest day of 2024 in the Northern Hemisphere. My thoughts are taken to this same time over the last few years where I have enjoyed some of my favourite wild swims on the Solstice. Some of these swims were shared with friends, some wearing homemade flower crowns, some were solo adventures, and some were just to watch the sun rise before 4am.
Outdoor swimming has been a key part of my life for years. It allows me to see our surroundings from a very different place, both physically and metaphorically. Key to this has been being able to observe the changing landscape through the seasons from the same spot in the middle of my regular reservoir. Harsh and withered in shared Winter swims with raucous Geese. Verdant and warm in shared Summer swims with divebombing Swifts. All evoke feelings of joy and alignment with nature.
Midsummer, or Litha, is historically seen as the point of new beginnings; with the changing of the seasons we say goodbye to a long, stagnant period of self-reflection, and welcome the fiery energy of the sun to propel us forward (at least that’s what I am hoping for!). So I am taking the opportunity to welcome the new Summer by introducing my “Aestas” Jam Jar posies, inspired by our beautiful local wild flower meadows.
Drop me a message if you would like to order.
As always, “Brining the outdoors in”.
