Friday Flowers club#23~Common Unity

Hello Friends.

I have had this week’s Friday flower Club marked in the calendar for quite a while now. Not for this upcoming weekend but for something a little more personal. This week marks one whole year since I was ‘outed’ in the school playground as having trained in floristry and wanting to try my hand at starting a small flower business.

On that day the first couple of orders were placed in advance of Mother’s Day, and that in turn gave me the confidence to follow through on my long-held notion of a regular flower club, and so FFC was somewhat hastily put out into the world the following week to try and capture the imaginations of like-minded souls; locally made, seasonally focussed arrangements inspired by the natural dynamism on our doorstep here in Sheffield, where members could opt in or out with no obligation as they see fit.

I had no idea what to do. I didn’t know how to navigate trade accounts, build a website, process orders or even promote what I was attempting to build. Most of what was released into the wild was done ad hoc from my kitchen table with little idea as to what would work. But over time it became clear that aside from the actual flowers themselves, what we were actually building here was a group. A forum for us to share experiences and knowledge. A space to sustain us, communally,  as we travel around the wheel of the year together united by our common interest. I came to realise, a community.

Community. Let’s break that down. Common unity. This is at the heart of what Friday Flower Club has become in one short year. And for that I want to express my thanks to everybody on here. Through your openness, generosity and at times, vulnerability, you have in turn offered me validation, belief, and in many cases, friendship. These gifts are precious, and far beyond where I ever imagined ‘Nicola Green Botanica’ would take me. Thank you. Now let’s take another trip around the wheel together.

For any orders or arrangements this week please drop me a message.

Usual channels for ordering nicola@nicolagreenbotanica.com or 07714025618 to join my Friday Flowers Club WhatsApp group.

As always, “Bringing the Outdoors In”.

Thank you.

Nicola
